Etymology
Classification
Synonymy
History Based on some observations in Colombia and Ecuador, Lötters, Glaw, Köhler and Castro (in Herpetozoa 12 p 23-38) revealed an ancient name to separate the northern and southern populations of Dendrobates histrionicus. The northern populations are still called histrionicus. The separation is based on characteristics of the call and seems to include minor colour variations. The disorderly pattern of the southern populations vary from the northern populations with their clearly visible spots.
