Type locality "Centro Científico, Río Palenque, 47 km S of Santo Domingo de los Colorados, Provincia Pichincha, Ecuador, 170 m".
Holotype The holotype is located in the Museum of Comparative Zoology, Harvard University under number: MCZ 96384.
Etymology
Classification In the Epipedobates pictus group. Possibly conspecific with the type of Colostethus whymperi according to Coloma, 1995, Miscellaneous Publications. Museum of Natural History, University of Kansas, 87: 55.
