Type locality "Santa Inés, N. of Medellin, [Departamento Antioquia,] Republic of Colombia, altitude 3800 feet [1160 m]".
Holotype The syntypes: BM 1947.2.15.21-34 and BM 1947.2.15.29 of Dendrobates opisthomelas are located at the British Museum in London. Designated lectotype by Silverstone, 1975, Science Bulletin. Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, 21: 32.

History
Physical description Size 14.5-19.5mm
Distribution Northern Cordillera Occidental and Central of Colombia (Antioquia) to the eastern slope of the Cordillera Central in Caldas, Colombia, 1160-2200 m elevation.
Biotope
Care and breeding They can be kept at a temperature of 23-25°C.
