Discovery Boulenger, 1914 "1913, Proceedings of the Zoological Society of London, 1913: 1029.
Type locality "Peña Lisa, Condoto, 300 feet", Departamento Chocó, Colombia.
Holotype The holotype: BM1947.2.15.13, is located in the British Museum in London.
Etymology
Classification Is a member of the Phyllobates group.
Synonymy English name: Kokoe Poison Frog

History
Physical description The size is between 24 and 34 mm. There are three variations, a small stripe, broad stripe and a green stripe. The broad and the small stripe variation have golden-yellow or golden-orange stripes. On the photo you will see the small stripe variation. The adults have broad stripes that melt to one on the back.
Distribution Rainforest of the Choco area, to the west of Colombia (Chocó and Valle del Cauca) in the Atrato and San Juan drainages, 90-1000 m elevation.
Biotope Tight vegetation on the bottom.
Care and breeding The frog is easy to breed in a vivarium of 80x40x40cm. at max. 30°C during the day and ca 18°C at night and a humidity of 80 - 95%. In the wild they breed mainly during the long humid periods, comparable to P. vittatus. The 15 to 28 eggs will be laid in black plastic film boxes and on leaves of bromeliads.
