After the tree parts have been positioned, the first action was to fill the area behind the tree parts with expanded polystyrene plates as much as possible. This material is much cheaper as PUR foam per unit of volume. Then the action of PUR foam creation starts. TIP : do not use more than 1 or 2 foam canisters each 8 hours and let the material completely expand before the next layer of foam is added. It does cost some time, since about 10 large PUR foam canisters were used but this is the only way to have control over the result. This material foams up to 3 times the original volume after applied.
To produce a solid foam skin the already installed spraying installation was used. Ones wet the foam hardens on the outside and becomes solid. Coating the foam is not required, since the material is unreactive after hardening and forms a solid polymer network which is water tight. Of course a hydrophilic layer should be added on the foam to make plants and frogs happy !!
