A shipment of plants was received and added to the vivarium straigth away. Since the front panel and door were not mounted yet it was easy to plant but more diffult to keep them wet.
This shipment that came from Vivaria amsterdam consisted of a number of orchids ( epidendrum, pleurothallis, oncidium, bulbophyllum, and more ), Bromelaids and Tillandsias and ferns.
The Orchids were planted in the lower to middle section, the Bromeliads in the middle to Upper and the Tillandsias in the Upper section. High in the vivarium the conditions are a lot hotter and dryer and the lighth is very intense ( like in the top of a forest tree ). This planting is very sensitive. Ferns were always planted in the low, lower light and humid sections. Some orchids can withstand larger light amounts as others and some knowledge helps to prevent mistakes. Tillandsias almost all like large amounts of light and sometimes quite dry circumstances. Especially the grey versions. Nevertheless it is very diffult to predict the exact circumstances at each spot in the vivarium and some plants will die in the process.
In order to create a visual depth in the vivarium the smaller plants were put in the back and in the high sections, while the larger plants were planted in the front and lower sections. This creates an artificial perspective ( i thought ).
Still the vivarium looks quite empty and more small plants will be ordered.
