Erik's Tinctorius Vivarium
Poison Frogs :
Dendrobates Tinctorius
Number of Frogs :
2 frogs (male and female)
Other species :
none
Plants :
I tried to copy a habitat for D. tinctorius as I found it in French Guyana. In the wild tinctorius can be found around tree falls and they are often hiding inside locks of these trees. The only bromeliad I found in the area where I found the tinctorius was Vriesea splendens in both the terrestrial and epyphitic form. In my terrarium there are two larger Vriesea splendens plants and some ficus to cover the backpannel.
Vivarium dimensions ( W x D x H ) :
80 x 40 x 40 cm
Lighting information :
Lamp: TL OSRAM 18W 31/830
Pump and water circulation :
No ventilation system and no water areas (thus no pump)
Ventilation system :
absent.
Misting system :
Humidity is kept over 80% spraying by hand.
Back panel substrate and system :
Backpanels are made from tempex, painted with blackboard paint and while still wet rubbed in with peat.
Bottom substrate and system :
On the bottom there is a layer of fernroot pannels to keep the terrarium moist and a thick layer of tropical leaves obtained from a greenhouse of my university is put on top to give it a natural look.
Other information :
I put in several pieces of wood to simulate a part of a fallen tree with a lot of hiding places for the frogs. I also put in some large seed husks that function as tadpole deposition sites.
