The books can be purchased via 3 associated bookstores on the internet. While using these links on this website and purchasing the books a small percentage will be generated for me, eventual money generated via these links will be used to buy Poison Frogs and Vivarium books myself so that I can inprove this website ( After one year this whole scheme has generated less than 5 US$ for me, my worst payed job ever !!!!! ). You will pay the same as directly entering the bookstore.
The advantage for you is that you can compare and get the best deal out of this, note the special offerings for free delivery and check the specific delivery and tax costs involved if you order intercontinental. Usually it is the cheapest to use the store that is closest to you.
A nice small and low priced booklet full of pictures and with a relatively large amount of information for the starting poison frog enthousiast. A book with a low entry barrier and very nice prints and glossy pictures, especially for this price.
A handy booklet providing ample information for the operational poison frog enthousiast. Personal note : Low on coloured pictures, but the information is of high value. There are several travel descriptions and good descriptions of the frogs and frog behavior of most popular poison frogs known.
A huge amount of beautifull glossy pictures in this book with a large amount of information on the majority of poison frogs known to man. The information might be sometimes a little bit disputable for biologists but for the serious hobbyist this book can not be missed on the bookshelf. It is not cheap, but this is mainly caused by the high quality prints and paper used, and by the way who said that poison frogs are cheap. By far the most beautifull book around on poison frogs, I know and worth every dollar, pound or euro.
This book is intended for children of age 5 - 10 years old.
In the La Selva rain forest the bromeliad plants collect dew and rainwater in cups formed by their leaves. The tiny strawberry poison frog has lived in a bromeliad pool for about three months. Now he has changed from a tadpole to a frog and no longer needs to live in water. This is the story of Strawberry Frog's journey to the forest floor and his staking of territory. He encounters many creatures, most of which recognize that his red body and blue legs are a sign that he is not a tasty morsel. He is a bad tasting, poisonous creature of the jungle. As the reader follows Strawberry Frog's adventures, an overview of life in the rain forest emerges. The illustrations are bright and detailed and a section, "About La Selva Rain Forest" appears in the back of the book. Experts at The Nature Conservancy have authenticated and licensed this habitat storybook.
This book is intended for children of age 5 - 10 years old.
Dewey introduces a uniquely fascinating rain forest creature: leggy, button-eyed, innocuously tiny, rainbow-hued creatures that are deadly to eat, to taste, and sometimes even to touch. Of the more than 100 varieties, Dewey depicts about 20 in precisely detailed colored-pencil scenes, taking the diminutive amphibians through their life and reproductive cycles, and showing also how traditional human hunters (she properly notes that many now use guns) use them to poison blowgun darts.
This book is intended for children of age 9 - 11 years old.
This series focuses on scientists who study animals. Lots of information about the creatures themselves is included in the engaging texts, but for the most part, the books detail each person's work, giving a balanced picture of what life in the field is like. Clear photos, both of the animals and the scientists, add to the overall appeal. The human side of the work is also emphasized in the "meet the author" sections that begin each title, in which the writers talk about how they became interested in these animals and how they learned about the scientist's work.
These recommendations regarding poison frog books come from Amazon directly, it could be that there is a new book there that i was unaware of, therefore i have put these in.
A complete book, with a large amount of information and pictures. It is expensive, but could be a must for the serious vivarium owner, who has more than "only" poison frogs.
A nicely illustrated booklet regarding most frogs known to be kept be people in vivarium cages. Descriptions are given of the different vivaria that can be used in different circumstances, and even tips on how to fotograph frogs in a good way. Since it covers a wide area of frogs, the poison frog part is not big. Therefore this booklet is recommended for the ones with a broader interest in frogs, but who did not made up his/her mind on which frog to start with. I bought it before i had any frog.
A small en inexpensive booklet with quite a lot of usefull information for amphibian care too, since the price is much less than one frog it is absolutely worth the money and prevent loosing these fine creatures on simple diseases.
These recommendations regarding general amphibian books come from Amazon directly, it could be that there is a new book there that i was unaware of, therefore i have put these in.
For those who know enough German, this 2001 published book is a good purchase. Besides the outstanding plant information with a large number of beautifull pictures, this booklet also provides information on vivarium building and construction, the construction of waterstreams and more. A good addition to my but also your vivarium and frog library.
